Oakley Eye – A device for the blind

Final year project for Victoria University

The project required that we choose one of three brands (mine being Oakley) and brand the product around that. My product developed it’s way into becoming a device for the blind, allowing them to see space using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. I combined RFID with the technology already available which is used in the Second Sight glasses for the blind to allow the user to see.

The user essentially tags the area with which they want to see with RFID tags which the device can read. The tags contain information on the space it is within including size, direction (relevant to the user) and distance (again, relevant to the user). This information is passed through the device and sent to an implant in the users eye which contains electrodes which stimulate the degenerated cells located on the retina at the rear of the eye.
